ATS CV checker: check your CV against the job ad

See which keywords from the job ad your CV already has and which are missing, plus layout and content tips. A guide, not a guarantee.

An ATS check uses 3 credits. New accounts get 20 free credits after confirming their email.

What is an ATS?

The software that reads your CV first

An applicant tracking system (ATS) is software many employers use to collect and sort job applications. Recruiters can search the CVs in it for skills, job titles and other words from the job ad.

Every system is different, and a person usually makes the decision. But a CV that is easy for software to read, and that uses the job ad's words where they are true for you, is easier to find.

What the check shows

Four things to look at before you apply

Keywords found

Words and skills from the job ad that your CV already has.

Keywords missing

Important words from the job ad that your CV doesn't have yet. Add them only if they are true for you.

Layout

Simple checks of your CV itself: contact details, job titles and dates, a skills list, the template and your photo.

Content and suggestions

Notes on what is unclear or missing for this job, and ideas to improve it.

Layout tips

Tips that help with any ATS

  • One column is the safest layout. ATS Plain is built for this.
  • Put your email and phone number in your CV, not only in a picture or header graphic.
  • Give every job a job title, employer and start date.
  • Add a skills list with the skills named the way the job ad names them.
  • A photo is ignored by ATS software; whether to add one depends on the country (see our country guides).
  • Download a PDF with real, selectable text. Every Build AI CV PDF has it.
Honest limits

What the check can't do

  • It can't see an employer's own system or settings, and it can't promise a ranking or an interview.
  • Only add keywords that are true for you. A CV with skills you don't have can cost you the job later.
  • It costs 3 credits each time you run it. The layout notes are free.

Questions about the ATS check

Will my CV pass every ATS?

Nobody can promise that: every employer's system and settings are different. The check helps you match the job ad and avoid common layout problems.

Which template is best for ATS?

ATS Plain: one simple column with no photo or graphics. Our other templates also produce PDFs with real text, but one column is the safest choice for older systems.

What does it cost?

3 credits per check. You get 20 free credits after confirming your email, and you can top up any time.

Can I upload the job ad?

Yes. Paste it, or upload a PDF, Word (.docx) or text file. The file is read in your browser.
